Sometimes a special something happens when a man and a woman meet over a mutual love and respect for the work of John Prine and Iris Demment.

We were supporting the Panics and Little Red up in Bryon bay in Northern New South and at the very pretty Tivoli  in Bris-Vegas.

Twas a hoot!

Returning to Melbourne there is one last show at the Retreat Love Inn with my Happy Hour band.
Angie Hart and Corrina Steel will be joining us to make a party at the end of the residency.

And for you Ladies and Gentlemen... My First pod cast here for your amusement.

Pod Cast #1

  Hey Folks,

Thanks for dropping by, since launching Happy Hour late last year and touring it righteously with my band of killers, I've been settling back into the gentle other side of the swim suit pageant that is putting out records. The fact is that I love it.Songs are both the map and the damn flies that won't leave me alone along that road. So,welcome to my mobile home. From here I'll be keeping in touch with you all and whoever else cares to join us along the way.

The band have been falling in love all over again these autumnal months here in tropical melbourne. Having some company up on those stages has been a bloody hoot again and it's an ears open/laugh out loud time for Roger,Stevie,Amos,Garreth,J.C and myself. We are starting to think about making some new recordings together and will try to upload some demos here along the way.

There are two, full band, Sunday Gigs remaining at the Retreat & also Solo on Wednesdays at the Gem Bar ,Dining room and Tax Haven in Collingwood starting at 8.30 through the dark months. I might even try to sneak some live solo recording out the door and onto these pages before too long.

To those of you interstate & OS we hope to offer you some concilation in live filming and podcasting over coming months. It's just me and the monkeys behind the curtain so don't be shy. Be very afraid though... soon I'm gonna start publishing my visual art right here. Anyway, have a good time... how could you not in a country where the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister attend the national jazz musician awards. Oh what a differance a year can make.

Welcome to Sime Nugent's new internet home

East of Everything

ABC1 Site

The ABC show “East of Everything” is featuring a couple of my songs, “Something Else” off the More about the benefits of hindsight album and “The Undertow” off The Undertow album. I have set up an MP3 sample for each song, hope you enjoy them.

For those of you yet to catch the show here is a brief outline for you...

"East of Everything revolves around a globetrotting travel writer who returns home for his mum's funeral to a neglected resort town, Broken Bay, on the easternmost point of Australia. He is challenged by a crooked local council, his brother who is trying to cheat him out of his inheritance, his first love who broke his heart when he was a teenager and the son he hasn't seen in ten years."

Songs:

  Something Else

  The Undertow

"Gentle as she goes" - Sime Nugent

Sime Nugent is a fiercely unique voice in Australian music. His new album, Happy Hour , draws from the deep well of roots, traditional and popular music. 13 Songs that are timeless and strangely uplifting. The music is unashamedly political, strikingly articulate and hauntingly beautiful.

About the album Sime says..." With imminent change on the breeze, I set out to write some hopeful music. We had a great time making this record....we're hoping a bunch of folks take it away with them on holiday, it seems to play well in the car. We're looking forward to getting out on the road ourselves through the Spring and Summer with "Happy Hour".

And what a band it is: Stevie Hesketh (Jet), Garrett Costigan (Tex, Don and Charlie) and arguably one of the country's best rhythm sections, Amos Sheehan and Roger Bergodaz (who is also a co-producer) are at the centre of most of the album. Guest appearances by Angie Hart, Dan Luscombe (Drones, Paul Kelly), Matt Walker and eleven other artists including Sime's six year old daughter, Edie Mae, help pepper the mix.

This album will surprise people familiar with Sime's previous releases. Clearly he and his collection of muso buddies have had a lot of fun creating this music. He continues to startle with the kind of straight talking prose and musicality that has made him a critically and popularly acclaimed artist. With Happy Hour , Sime shows us a leaner, pop sensibility that makes this a highly listenable and sunny collection of songs. He stares straight back at the listener and dares us to share a little hope. Curiously it works.

Sime Nugent Happy Hour is the first release from new independent label, Spice Rack Records (who also run the studio where most of the album was recorded). It will be out on the 6th of October, distributed by MGM.
